Heartland student vets march to combat hungerMarch 21, 2018
Student vets at Heartland Community College are lacing up their boots to bring food to the hungry.
The Heartland Veteran’s Center is heading up a spring food drive to benefit Midwest Food Bank. Not only are Heartland vets and active duty service members collecting canned and boxed goods to feed the hungry in McLean County, they will also be marching the collected items to the food bank in a 6.2 mile “ruck.”
Food dropped off at three locations on the Heartland campus, along with donations the marchers bring in, will be packed up for a Saturday, April 21st trek from the HCC campus in Normal to Midwest Food Bank’s warehouse in Bloomington beginning at 10:30 a.m..
Those wishing to drop off donations of canned and dry goods can do so on campus at the Student Commons Building (SCB) 1101, the Instructional Commons Building (ICB) atrium or the Workforce Development Center (WDC) atrium.
Preferred items include:
- Canned foods, including soups and pastas
- Peanut butter
- Box meals
The Veteran's Center provides a gathering point for Armed Forces vets currently attending Heartland and resources to help with the transition from soldier to student.
